Welcome to the first instalment of my latest Trip Report Series! We were in Disneyland Paris from 9th-13th March 2020.
This was a different kind of trip in some ways, as the parks were starting to feel the impact of the COVID-19 outbreak. In fact, we were (unknowingly) in the parks on the final day of operation. There were some changes to the norm at Disneyland Paris due to the ever-changing government advice about large gatherings etc – but I’ll talk about those in later posts. Our first day was a normal day at Disneyland Paris.
Despite the circumstances, this actually ended up being our best Disney trip yet and I can’t wait to show you all the reasons why.
Arriving in France
We arrived in France around 12:30pm. We flew into Charles de Gaulle Airport as usual and then took an Uber (€58) to our first hotel of the trip, Campanile Val De France. At the time of booking, it made sense to have 2 hotels but by the time the trip rolled around, it really didn’t. With that being said, we have the same hotel booked for our next two Disneyland Paris trips, so it was nice to stay for a night and see what it’s like.
Luckily, our room was available as soon as we got there so we were able to drop off our suitcase and freshen up before hitting the parks. Our room was basic but homely, which is all you need when you’re only really there to sleep.
As Campanile Val de France is a Disney partner hotel, they offer a free shuttle bus to and from the parks, which are roughly 5 minutes away. There is a shuttle every 20 minutes and it drops you at the Disney Village. We got off the shuttle, went through security and headed straight to the Disneyland Park.
Adventures in the Disneyland Park
It’s tradition for us to visit the Disneyland Park first on every trip. We arrived in the park around 2:40pm and for some reason, the ride wait times were unusually low so we managed to hit Star Tours, Le Pays de Conte Fees, It’s A Small World and Hyperspace Mountain one after the other.
Fun Fact: Until this trip, we had never been on Le Pays de Conte Fees. So we have OFFICIALLY ridden every ride in Disneyland Paris.
Sadly by the time we got to the parks, most of the character meets were finished for the day but don’t worry, we absolutely doubled-down on character meets for the next 4 days!
By 5pm – we were STARVING so we got some snacks (Mickey bickies of course!) and found a spot on the bottom of Main Street for Stars on Parade. The biscuits were from The Boardwalk Candy Palace on Main Street.
We were so lucky to see the parade early on in our trip, as they cancelled all outdoor shows towards the end of the week. It doesn’t matter how many times I’ve seen Stars on Parade, it doesn’t get any less magical to see all my favourite characters in one show.
After the parade, we hot-footed over to one of my favourite rides Phantom Manor (5 minute wait time – YEHAW!).
After our park day came to an end, we headed to the Disney Village to get dinner at Annette’s Diner. We like eating at Annette’s because we get 10% annual pass discount in there as well as a free non-alcoholic cocktail.
Amy got the Avocado Burger and I got the standard cheeseburger and chips.
Side Note: The burger sauce in Annette’s is nothing short of AMAZING.
After we’d finished eating, we got the shuttle back to the Campanile for an early night as we had 4 long, fun-filled park days ahead!
I hope you’ve enjoyed reading Day 1 of our Trip Report, please keep checking back to Day 2 which is coming very soon!
